Dr. Diana Vieira is an Environmental Engineer with a special focus on soil erosion risk. She completed her PhD in Environmental Sciences and Engineering at the University of Aveiro and has published 25 articles in peer-review journals. During her research path, she was the Principal investigator of the FEMME project and supervised PhD theses, postdoctoral and MSc fellowships, participated in national and EU projects, and organized international scientific events. In the EUSO team she is dedicated to large scale post-fire soil erosion modelling, land degradation, healthy soils, and the assessment, fate, and remediation of soil pollution in EU soils.
Dr. Arwyn Jones is the EU Soil Observatory Lead at the European Commission’s Directorate-General Joint Research Centre. He is responsible for coordinating the provision of relevant evidence base knowledge and data to support of soil related European Union policies. With a background in quaternary geology and a PhD in remote sensing of semi-arid soils, he has spent almost the last thirty years in land surface research and since 1998, specifically dealing with soil related issues at EU and global levels. He authored the soil assessment of the 2010 State of the European Environment Report (SOER) , the JRC Reference Report on the State of Soil in Europe and with the European Environment Agency, co-authored the Soil Chapter in the 2015 SOER.
